Orange Valley & BloomField Tea Estate (Bio Organic)

The Orange Valley Tea Estate is located in northern valley of Darjeeling town. On the top of high blue mountain. The three divisions - Bloom Field, Orange valley and Frederick Burgh. The Estate was planted in 1865. The estate is located at an elevation of 6500 ft at upper most section to 3500 ft at lower sections. The bushes are mainly from “China” and looks like lush green carpet during the season time.

There is a grand view of the KANCHENJUNGA Mountain from the garden which is also surrounded by ‘ORANGE’ trees. Driving through and around the garden one is spell bound by the natural beauty of the area.

The famous tourist spot ‘ROCK GARDEN’ with its high yet gentle waterfall cascading down like through a stairway is situated on the garden land as also the way to another beautiful tourist spot ‘GANGA MAYA’ is through the garden

Orange Valley produces finest quality “First Flush”. The tea produced provides a liquor that is light and delicate in colour, floral flavour, aroma and a slightly sharp taste. Their distinguishing qualities remain an enigma.

“Bloomfield” the upper division of the Estate produces unmatched tea in the district during Second Flush with MUSCATEL teas, with flavours unrivalled and evocative of Muscat grapes. The right combination of soil and processing in the factory results in a taste that can be described as “fruity” with concentrated aroma. The leaves are dark brown with silvery tips.

Orange Valley has a soft glow of history that lends it sense of romance. Combined with the panorama of its scenic glory, it bestows the visitors with never to be forgotten memories. Images of lush mountain slopes amidst flitting clouds continue to linger in the mind, just like the distinctive flavours of its Teas.

Orange Valley Tea Estate is a Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Point (HACCP) & certified as BIO-ORGANIC & Fair Trade, RAINFOREST ALLIANCE, UTZ and ETP.

Why Orange Valley is renowned for its fine quality teas?

Our decades of experience have taught us to harvest the leaf at the right stage (because even a delay of one day could hamper the tea quality) and identify the optimum time in which the best character of the bush is fully expressed.

We take special care during the storage and transportation of the harvested green leaves as they are extremely tender and can easily be damaged by improper handling, bacteria and heat.

A final prepack backing is also done to remove excess moisture present in the tea leaves which significantly enhances shelf life and encourages the tea flavour to mature over a period of time as in the case of fine wines.

Moreover, in order to maintain the final product as "authentic" as possible, we still use the original old machines which cost more to run but preserves the original Darjeeling character better

  • The garden is North East facing with gentle hill slopes.
  • The garden ranges from 3500 - 6000 ft. above sea level.
  • There is ample amount of rainfall throughout the year.
  • The factory is well equipped to ensure that the inherent quality present in the leaf is retained.
  • The advent of winter leads to a period of dormancy between December to February which results in concentrated flavour of 1st and 2nd Flush between March to June every year.
  • The local weather is very suitable for the garden as it has a cool temperature, generous rainfall and cloudy sky broken by bright sunshine at regular intervals. As a result, the factors combined help in maintaining the fine fragrance of the tea produced.
  • The old plantation is replaced by new ones to an extent of 2% every year.
  • The estate is HACCP certified.
